The American House Hotel invites you to experience a glimpse into the past. Located on the corner of 4th & State Streets in historic Hamburg, PA, our landmark hotel is quite possibly one of the oldest buildings in Hamburg, evidenced by an early deed dated from 1806. Records show it became a licensed hotel in 1853 and included a tavern, eating house and oyster cellar. It had changed hands through the years and most recently was acquired in 2003 by a local entrepreneur, Mr. Christopher Madara. The Tavern, located in the basement level, has been operational since 2004. The first floor, after undergoing extensive renovations, opened in March, 2006, as the American House Hotel Restaurant, a premier dining establishment. Eating here is an experience you won't want to miss. Perhaps you'll fall in love with the ambiance of the Victorian era. Look around our dining rooms to discover the tin ceilings, the old-style chandeliers and sconces, and the art and antiques that grace our establishment. After a visual tour, you'll want to stay for our menu.
Our Executive Chef has developed exciting and innovative
entrees to satisfy the most particular of appetites. As you look over our menu you'll see influences of French, Italian and American cuisines. The Black Angus Beef & Bean Chili is outstanding. For the chili connoisseur, our chili will be the one you remember. The Bacon Horseradish Shrimp, roasted to perfection, is highly recommended. Or try the Garlicky Littleneck Clams, described by one patron as having "a taste that outshines the outer banks."
Our entrees are diversified, from NY Strip Steak or Mahi-Mahi, Honey & Rum Glazed Salmon or Pan-Seared Duck Breast, all presented in a fashion that will have you wanting to take a picture before you eat. Our salad dressings are made in-house, as are our desserts. And, trust us, you won't forgive yourself if you miss our desserts.
Our Chocolate Decadent Torte is a slice of chocolate bliss. (Chocolate lovers, beware! You will want more of this!) We also have a variety to offer in our children's menu which are based on favorites that are not commonly found elsewhere. Our menu is diversified and we hope everyone will find an appealing dish. If you don't see what you'd like or want it prepared differently, just ask. We want you to savor every bite. We're serious in our goal to become the best in Berks County!
